“The subject of my artistic research and interest is human intimacy. I’m interested in the memory that objects deliver from their owners and in imprints that one leaves on surroundings. Urban scape and empty beds are the visual images I am working with: Cityscape as a metaphor of “public”, and bed as a metaphor for “private”. I like to watch, investigate and explore how both environments reflect different aspects of our lives, how deeply they are connected with each other. There is only a tiny line left between these notions: with the development of social networks and virtual reality the private life of any person has gotten so much exposure and our privacy has been extended to so many completely different dimensions.
I try to analyze a certain emotional/ mental state and find a visual/verbal equivalent to it. Words are indelible part of my work. They are not linked literally to the depicted image, though they guide the viewer through my thoughts and motivations. Words might be from my private diaries or notes or fragments of phrases I marked from books, lyrics, etcetera. Their visual appearance is not always so evident, they have to be discovered between the layers of transparent paper which I use as a base for my work. Transparency of rice paper mounted on canvas allows me to put different layers in my work. Layers like the unconscious mind, full of unstructured information and memories, my drawings are meant to be browsed for a while through the surface to uncover different data to be hidden between the layers.
