Doug Parry was born on September 24, 1964 in Auburn, Washington. In 1988 he received his BFA in Printmaking from the University of Washington. Between the years of 1988 and 1997, he enjoyed success as a young artist in Seattle and exhibited at: The University of Washington; The Bellevue Art Museum; The Seattle Art Museum; The Center of Contemporary Art; Linda Farris Gallery; and Linda Cannon Gallery.
In 1997, Parry moved to Brooklyn, New York where, in 2000, he received his MFA in Painting from Pratt Institute. Since then he has exhibited in: Seattle; New York (including Brooklyn, New York City, and Roxbury); Chicago; Vancouver Canada and Art/Basel in Miami Beach. He has been awarded grants from: Pratt Institute (NY); The Joan Mitchell Foundation (NY); and Artists’ Trust of Seattle. He was also the Resident Curator at: the Historic Cedar Tavern Gallery (NY), Bandoleone Restaurant (Seattle) and is the founder of V.A.G. (Visual Art Gallery) at its first location, at Bar Sputnik (Brooklyn). Parry taught Life Painting at: Hofstra University (Hempstead, L.I., NY); College of Saint Elizabeth (Morristown, NJ); and Pratt Institute (Brooklyn). He currently teaches at DigiPen Institute of Technology (Redmond, WA).
His private and public collections include placements in homes and businesses in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Dallas, Houston, Chicago, New York and Rome. He is a sought after portrait artist commissioned by noteworthy businesspersons, doctors, writers, actors and musicians internationally. His work has been seen on television, in film, on album covers, t-shirts, murals and posters since 1983. His work is represented by Art 101 in Brooklyn, New York and by Neo Images Gallery in Santa Barbara, CA. He currently resides in Seattle, Washington.
