Doug Groupp

Contemporary New York City conceptual artist Doug Groupp has been creating one of a kind and limited edition silkscreen paintings, fine art prints and cut ups/collage for the past 10 years. Republic Worldwide is excited to represent a unique collection of his finest work. The imagery in his work is based on line, form and nostalgia. It combines seemingly disparate elements of idyllic childhood whimsy, superfluous everyday objects, Native American mysticism and modern industrial design. Together these images combine to create a cohesive collection of iconic imagery.

In his own words… “My Paintings can be characterized as playful and incongruous, but I also think of them as hieroglyphic. The process of piecing together fragments ends with my recognition of the wholeness of form. For me, finality is significant: it prompts me to interpret the moment of completion as well as the potential of the image to bear meaning. The coupling of the hermeneutic with the ridiculous ultimately thwarts any attempt to establish a primary meaning. Instead the work reveals itself to be organic-both in the process-oriented creation of form and in terms of its capacity to generate a multitude of responses within the viewer, the contemplation of which create even more interpretive possibilities.”
